This is Saffron. It is the most expensive and precious spice in the world.
You're probably confused as to why and that's perfectly normal. Saffron is an extremely labor-intensive crop. It comes from a tiny flower called Crocus sativa and each flower has three threadlike stigmas in the centre, attached to its stamen.
These three stigmas must be carefully removed by hand, then, dried and packed for production.
It takes 80,000 saffron flowers (crocus sativas) to harvest about 450 grams of saffron.
456 grams of saffron can cost anything from $3000 to $5000.
In Iran, saffron is relatively cheaper as the climate suits the precious flower and also because labor is cheaper.
